Personal Effects: Dark Art…an entertaining read so far!

It’s pretty rare that I’m interested enough in an actual book (as opposed to comics/graphic novels) to purchase it.  Rarer still to go to several stores the day the book’s released in an attempt to acquire it.

Unfortunately, I’d NOT pre-ordered this as I should have, and so found myself having to do without for most of its first week.  I ordered the book online, and it arrived yesterday.

I’m only about 115 pages in, but it’s been a great read so far. I was incredibly impressed with all the stuff that came WITH the book.  The credit/bank card, insurance card, business cards, birth and death certificates, photos and artwork, a funeral card and whatnot are all documents included here to let the reader get a personal feel for what’s being talked about in the story itself.

I’ve yet to call the main character’s voicemail to hear his dad’s message, but I have already googled some stuff and found articles referred to in-story, and it’s quite cool.

Though these extras are there for more of an immersive experience, thus far the story itself is drawing me in enough that I suspect this is going to be something I read as a regular novel overall, and THEN go back to check out all the fun goodies associated with it.
